Component obsolescence -in some cases in combination with legislation like RoHS- drives the development of improved functionality follow up units. During a transition phase both the old and new design will be available readily in parallel. In other cases like CAMAC and FASTBUS a standard is no longer in wide use what results in low demand and makes efficient production and support a challenge.
